SEO Techniques Unveiled: Best Practices for Search Engine Optimization

One of the best ways to create content is by using the power of SEO in digital marketing. What is SEO? In this blog post, I’m going to explain what SEO is and how it works, along with SEO techniques you can implement throughout your website and/or YouTube channel. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. When I first encountered this term, I was completely baffled. My brain couldn’t quite wrap around it, so let’s break it down. Search engines are those search bars you see on your internet browser, prominently featured on the front page of Google and at the top of YouTube’s page. They allow you to look for or search for information online. Optimization comes from the word "optimizing," which means to make something as effective, efficient, or functional as possible.

Search Engine + Optimization = Ensuring your content is optimized to help you appear higher in search engines.

Understanding the Role of Keywords in SEO (Keywords are Key)

When it comes to Search Engine Optimization, using specific words in your communications or messaging can help you generate more organic awareness and make your content more discoverable. For this post, I’m sprinkling in phrases like “SEO techniques,” “Search Engine Optimization,” and “digital marketing” within the first few sentences, hoping that people searching online to learn more about SEO will come across my content. If you don’t incorporate these keywords, the search engine won’t be able to find you in the crowd, and in this case, the crowd is made up of millions of websites across the world. Make sure to identify the words that might trigger and attract your audience and include them in your title, subheadings, meta descriptions, throughout your article, and tags.

Aside from using keywords, there’s also long tail keywords that can be introduced into your content strategy. These long tail keywords happen to be longer, more specific phrases that might have lower search volume but can drive super targeted traffic to your site. As you can see, we are using our subheadings to highlight these long tail keywords in our blog post.

Crafting Effective Meta Descriptions for Better SEO

You know when you’re searching for something on Google and there’s a small snippet of text displayed below the link? That little snippet is the Meta Description which gives potential readers a sneak peek of what’s inside. A well-crafted meta description can be the difference between someone clicking through to your content or scrolling past it. If the meta description is not manually written, oftentimes it’ll auto-populate the first few sentences of that web page and/or blog post. But the trick here is to utilize the power of SEO and sprinkle keywords that resonate with what your audience is searching for. I like to use a Chrome extension called Keywords Everywhere that helps me identify the search volume of specific phrases people are looking up.

Internal Link Building: Connecting Content for SEO Success

Once you get people to visit your website, the goal is to keep them as long as you can and this is where internal linking comes in. It’s all about linking to other relevant pages within your own site. By strategically placing internal links, you not only help your visitors find related content but also boost your SEO. It helps search engines understand the structure of your site and the relationship between your content pieces thus making your brand stand out. Mobile-First Optimization: Boosting Your Site's Performance on Smartphones

Believe it or not, your site’s inability to adapt to mobile configurations can hinder your search engine ranking. In today's digital landscape, where convenience is key, a mobile-friendly website is no longer just a nice-to-have—it's a must-have. According to Semrush, Google claims over 95% market share on mobile, which means that the vast majority of organic searches are happening on mobile devices. As a 28-year-old marketing professional, I can tell you firsthand that if your website isn’t optimized for mobile, you’re missing out on a massive audience.
